About

The Full Story

I am an experienced and well qualified professional educator and have worked in multiple educational contexts: secondary education as a teacher of English and Drama in England and New Zealand; in Special Education working with visually impaired primary school children; in language schools as an instructor in English language; at New Zealand polytechnics in teaching, leadership, and research roles and in universities in China, Japan and New Zealand.

In my position as Professional Teaching Fellow in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Auckland, I was a member of an award-winning team that provided language and academic development to Business Masters’ students, many of whom were international students undertaking a high level and intensive programme of study in a business discipline. My colleague in International Business at the University of Auckland, Dr Jo Wright, has written this endorsement of my work:

While at the University of Auckland, Nick Shackleford and I worked together across a number of courses and different Masters’ assessments.  In particular, Nick worked as an integral part of the supervision team on the Master of International Business and Master of Marketing capstone course to support both myself and my co-supervisors, as well as students. In many cases, Nick shouldered the burden of helping some of the students who were struggling with their research and writing to achieve a successful conclusion for their industry focused capstone projects, as related to their final 12,000 – 14,000-word academic reports.

Working alongside Nick was a really valuable experience for me, with his approach to students being open and transparent, as well as supportive and constructive. Students learned to trust Nick, and this trust was instrumental in helping them achieve a successful conclusion to their Masters’ degree. From my perspective, Nick was more than happy to work alongside me as part of a team to make sure the students were provided with wraparound services.

Since leaving the University of Auckland, I have completed a specialist Diploma in Proofreading and Editing at the New Zealand Institute of Business and work as a freelance proofreader and editor.

Please see my Curriculum Vitae, Reference, and Conference lists under the Work section for further information about me.
